Welcome!
The Harness Horse Society of Victoria was formed in 1973 by a group of dedicated harness enthusiasts who were interested in showing. The original members, like the present day members, owned a variety of ponies and horses shown in harness - ranging from majestic Clydesdales through to elegant high stepping Hackneys and cute Welsh ponies. The aim of the original HHSV Committee was to promote the showing in harness of all types of ponies and horses.
Their hard work and devotion resulted in many positive developments including a prestigious harness event as part of the annual Barastoc HOTY Show - a tradition which is still going strong 35 years later! This is a benchmark showing event and to be able to say that your harness horse or pony is a “Barastoc Champion” is still a real honour!
Today the HHSV proudly continues to build upon this strong foundation by conducting information days, shows and other events. Our members exhibit, judge and steward at a range of shows including Royals, HOTY Shows and Agricultural shows plus other events like dressage competitions. The current Committee is working hard to present another benchmark event on 5th October 2008 (the first Sunday in October) which will showcase a remarkable range of harness horses and ponies and hopefully introduce many new people to the delights and intricacies of showing in harness.
The main focus of the HHSV now is to continue running more successful events and shows. Our members are committed not only to maintaining the historic traditions and gracious elegance of a bygone era but to ensuring that showing in harness continues to thrive and grow in the 21st century.
The HHSV would like to express its sincere appreciation to its Committee members (all volunteers!) and sponsors past and present. Without their ongoing support and commitment it would just be impossible to continue to organise the shows and events for members.
